I actually admire the wines--moved here thinking it would turn out to be an emperor with no clothes situation, but it's really not. He really brings a unique finesse to his wines. Or did, as Gary has handed off to his son. But they can't give away the 2011 vintage.

Is the 2011 similar to the Northern California wines? Lean and cold climate?

I would probably like them!

I've only tried the 2003 years ago, so....??

2003 would have been about the hottest year in the last 12 I have any knowledge of, 2011 the coldest. But not just cool--I share your liking for cool vintages so I'm a lovin' on the 2010's which was the coolest year since 1999, but not the disaster that was 2011. It was wet and nothing got ripe enough--many vineyards were forced to wait into November to pick. And when the grapes got just barely ripe enough? One week later, frost hit. Not everyone could pick, and a lot of vineyards just had to chuck the fruit because there was so much rot. By comparison, California had it easy.
