WTN: Teldeschi Zin '07

Teldeschi winery is still there, right next to the Dry Creek General Store at Lambert Bridge Road. If the "Open" sign is out, you go up the driveway and park and walk over to a cellar door, and there's a sign that says, "Come in and sing out!" or something to that effect.
You'll talk to a guy named Teldeschi, who is a generation younger than I am. Wine for tasting is kept in little apothecary bottles - they don't get herds of drop-ins.
When I was there last June, (which is why I'm a bit vague on the details), I picked up a bottle of their '07 Zinfandel, and I opened it with my spaghetti supper tonight.

Good idea. Definitely Old Zin. Not at all tired, though. Cherry rather than blackberry, very muted tannins, but not drying at all. Black in color, thick in texture. Nice lingering finish with the slightly musty-sweet aftertaste of a successful older vintage.

Dry Creek Valley, Estate Grown, $30.00 16.1% alcohol (which surprised me.) Ok, '07 was a ripe year. But this didn't taste like a high-alcohol Zin at all.

John,
I recently had a DCV from the same year (Collier Falls). The fruit was there but the alcohol overwhelmed after a while. Looks like Teldeschi managed to avoid that.

He did indeed, Shaji. And it worked tonight with baby back ribs from Willowside Meats. The Teldeschi is on the ripe cherry side; not pruney at all, and very nicely balanced. Not pruney at all.
