Who is Cosentino Winery?

by Jenise » Fri Feb 28, 2014 1:42 pm

Lou, Brian, anyone: a long time ago, I am sure I read that Cosentino winery closed. Now, there seems to again be a Cosentino Winery. Is it the same people? Is it a bunch of investors? Is it someone buying the name (like Havens) and pretending they're the same winery they've always been? If one checks Cosentino's website, they do imply that and don't admit to any interruption. Or have I simply garbled up the wrong winery?

That's exactly what I wanted to know, thanks. This came up because a friend wrote to me this morning that she'd bought some Cosentino pinot from WTSO this morning. She doesn't remember asking me about it when this was offered a month or so back, a purchase I didn't endorse because Cosentino never actually made a wine as described in the WTSO sale, nor does Cosentino's website show any pinot noir in their lineup. It's probably just bulk juice and will be worth exactly what she paid for it, about $15. But she remembers Cosentino winery from way back--used to be in their club in fact--and is naïve about the workings of both WTSO and wineries that prostitute their brand for a buck. She thought they just "closed and re-opened" as she put it, without realizing it could be a whole different 'they'.

Enjoyed all the PR double-speak about ambassadorsips and 'historic turning points' in this article. Laughed out loud when I saw the Windsor name, too.
