WTN: Max Ferd Richter - something nice in Alko for once

Max Ferd. Richter Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Auslese 2012
Half bottles are available in Alko for about 15€. And it smells of very pure Riesling and is very obviously Mosel in its combination of sweet, honeyed flavours and rocky, mineral sensations. Great acidity, 90 g/l sugar and ripe but crunchy fruit make this an irresistibly moreish wine. But aromatically it isn't very open on day one so forget in a fridge for a day or three before drinking. Or don't open it now but instead forget it in a cellar for years. No, this isn't an old bottle Prüm, but it is still a truly delightful Mosel Riesling and one that is very much worth drinking and buying.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

I've had a couple of visits to the winery, and they always provide such great hospitality. There is a new very pricy hotel on the grounds now, though, and that changes the experience a little. But their wines are always solid, and seem to fly under the radar, though, as you say, don't quite compete with the top wineries of the region. This one sounds good!

My sentiments exactly. I am rarely if ever disappointed in a MFR wine, though I am also rarely thrilled.
