Golly, weekend already. Looking forward to the `01 Reserve Riscal and a late harvest Yalumba Muscat.

Bob's weekends begin on Wednesday and end on Tuesday, so forgive him if he looses track.
I may have a Loire Cab Franc Rose I picked up recently to pair with a pork roast.

Flying home tomorrow evening, so it'll be airline peanuts and no wine for me then. :)

I'm sure we'll celebrate being home by opening something nice for Saturday night dinner, but I rarely if ever plan that far ahead. Am I unusual in this?

I'm not a big planner either. Usually what I may do is go to the cellar about once a month or so, and select ~ 10 bottles to put in my "consume sooner than later" bin. These tend to be everyday drinkers rather than special bottles.

We'll be having supper with David Bueker's wife Laura on Friday night. I have a couple of rieslings with a little age on them picked out for the evening.

And she has a 2005 German in her checked bag.

I have no idea what I'll be drinking tonight, much less over the weekend.

Don't know yet. Like Robin, I don't plan ahead that far. But usually, we'll decide what to cook, then choose the wine.

Bob, I have a dry Traminette from Michigan that's been calling to be opened for some time now. I also have another bottle of the amazingly fantastic Kleine Zalze Pinotage that I reported on not too long ago, just in case I choose a red.

But, truth be told, I never know the answer to these types of questions until the moment I head downstairs and am standing before my wines, and then it's usually an impulsive decision anyhow.

Company potluck, so I offered to contribute the red wine:

Raymond Generations Cab 1998. Still drinking very lovely in the rich, almost port-y style (wwith some bottle variation). I stole this wine from the grocery store at a great price.

Mazzoco Matrix 1999 Bordeaux Blend-very savory, delicious Euro-style blend. Awesome, and rationally priced.

Paul Hobbs Merlot 2002. I'm being generous here  , but this fruit bomb style is not my preference-I think it will go over very well.

The Prisoner 2004-A very nice quaffer which is Zin-based but a everything but the kitchen sink blend.

Ampelos Syrache-Delicious Central Coast Syrah/Grenache blend.

Andeluna Cab 2004 tonight. Nice Argentine wine for $8.99. It was nice and smokey with lots of flavor. It was a very nice accompaniment to my wife's flank steak and red rice. We had rose cremant for dessert. all in all a nice evening and a great start to the weekend.

Since my trusty spare 375 is in the fridge filled with half a bottle of the '05 Glenora Finger Lakes Riesling that I started tonight, I will start the weekend with it and some crab cakes tomorrow night.

Sampling a crazy Zin at the moment. Sucks. WTN to follow in a minute.

Tomorrow will be imbibing more that is healthy: three of us will gather for an informal dinner and each brings a blind bottle. Sunday I'm supposed to run a half-marathon - no idea how I'll manage that with a full bottle drunk on Sat! Maybe I'll bring a Tokaji Eszencia at 2,7% abv! :)

Might be a tough weekend for wine. Going to the theater tonight to see Urinetown, and I try not to drink more than one glass to keep from falling asleep. Tomorrow is a neighborhood party and the hostess will serve wine and beer but nothing really that good. Since there are no avid winos going to the party I will just drink what is available. May be hope for Sunday. Am in the process of updating my cellar inventory so am sure something interesting will pop up. Next weekend is a big Italian weekend with a friend of mine and I cooking for our wives. The big guns come out at these dinners. Good wines before dinner, great wines with dinner, and oh yeah, several chef wines.

Oooh! A special meeting of my tasting group tonight. We have an 8-vertical of Il Colle Brunello - '78, '79, '80, '81, '83, '85, '88, '90. The rest of the weekend, god knows. I have an '04 Avery Lane MSR Riesling in the fridge ...

It's not every day that you meet someone who quotes Rush. That is one of my favorite Rush tunes (I played Rush covers almost exclusively in my first band). It so happens that I just purchased a Fender Geddy Lee Signature Jazz Bass. 8) Oh, and I'll probably open my Chinon or my Ripasso this weekend.
