WTN: How do forumites view Albert Morot?

Albert Morot Savigny-lès-Beaune La Bataillère aux Vergelesses 1er Cru 2009
A monopole. 30% new oak IIRC but that has already mostly vanished. I have to say that I'm quite impressed. It starts out tight and needs quite a bit of air, but once it opens up it smells of Pinosity. Admirable freshness and crunch for a 2009 - in fact it has such lively acidity that if it had 2008 or some other cooler vintage on the label I wouldn't have thought anything wrong. Structured and rugged, even. I like it, though of course it needs time.

But it's not a producer I'm very familiar with so I'd like to hear other views!

This monopole is supposed to be special, although I don't think I've ever had it.

Here in the US we used to get a lot of older back-vintage Morot wines, which were nice. I never bought as many as some other folks, but from what I experienced I thought the rep was for solid old-fashioned CdB wines, potentially very good with the right vineyard and the right year.

I view this producer through the unopened bottles in my cellar.

Maureen Nelson once opened a bottle of a Morot wine for me (I forget exactly which one), and I recall enjoying it. Of course virtually every wine Maureen opens is enjoyable. She has good taste.

This.
Most of my experiences were with the Beaune Teurons, and almost all from '83 to '96 vintages. Not the most elegant wines, but solid old-fashioned (in a good way) sums them up. Were generally well-priced.
Zero experience with young vintages.

I purchased two bottles of the '91 Beaune Teurons, but both alas proved to be badly corked. For obvious reasons, I haven't gone out of my way to seek out more Morot wines.

A sample size of two surely shouldn't be a deterrent?

Otto, it's not enough to draw hard conclusions, but at $20-30 a bottle, I'm only going to throw away so much money in search of statistical significance.
