WTN: 1998 Heredad de Baroja Rioja Gran Reserva

Elvillar de Alava, Spain. 12.5% alcohol by volume. Exceeded my expectations but may be nearing the end of its drinking window. Deep purple color and opaque with some viscosity. The wine shows dark fruits and dried herbs on the nose and palate. There are hints of earthiness, but it is in no way rustic. rather supple and inviting. It was perhaps fresher the first evening. I paired it with pepperoni pizza the second evening while watching the Super Bowl.

Appears to be quite traditional when looking at the website but do not need the music!

Bob, I've had the Cautivo basic white wine (and really enjoyed it one summer--not a long-aging wine) but the bottles of the red that I own don't seem to say either Cautivo or Cautum. Maybe those designations are for more recent vintages.
