2005 François Chidaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Les Tuffeaux - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire (1/21/2014)
While this is not the most vibrant wine I have ever drank, it is well balanced. There's plenty of citrus fruit and melon, along with just a touch of that Chenin Blanc wet wool. Very nice pairing with my spicy seared scallops, as the moderate sweetness balanced the spice of the food.

We all split a case of a Montlouis about 9 years ago. It was delicious. A Kermit Lynch wine. But you don't see that AOC very often.
I always buy when I do. There is a co-op in the center of town and I'm sure it would be worth a flyer if you ever see a bottle.

Love the Chidaine I'm seeing on the board this week!

Tuffeaux is a lovely bottling. I've not had one as mature as this. The younger ones I've had (under 5 years old) have been beautiful with just the right touch of sweetness. I've paired this very well with seared scallops with a thai basil red pepper sauce.

I served Les Argiles last night to a group that had little to no experience with Vouvray and it was VERY well received.

For the record I would be unable to distinguish Montlouis from Vouvray if served blind. I'd be interested if anyone can distinguish them enough to shed light on their differences.

I'm going to have to seek out some Montlouis wines. I had a taste of the 2008 Francois Chidaine Montlouis Clos du Breuil at a restaurant in San Francisco back in 2010 thanks to some contributors to this forum that met up with me for an offline. I really enjoyed the wine but will probably have to order Montlouis online unless Cave Taureau in Durham carries some.
David, I like your reference to "Louie, Louie." This song by The Kingsmen was popular when I was in junior high or maybe high school and was controversial because of the unintelligible lyrics but I found the record appealing and listened to it many times (also "Tequila" by The Champs.)

I think the consensus is that vineyard differences are more important than village differences, in this case. Although I could be wrong.
