2011 Rothschild Cadet Claret

by Anthony C » Sun Jan 19, 2014 5:56 am

Went out for a meal last night and tried this Claret

This was deeply red (almost black), with an intense aroma which I found had hints of coffee.

The taste was incredibly rich, predominantly tasting of dark fruits, but with a vaguely caramelly sweetness. It was smooth, and, with its low alcohol content, went down very very well.

It also complimented the rare fillet steak I was eating

I think this is Mouton Cadet relabelled for the on-trade

Honest claret but the restaurants I've been in which list it give excessive prominence to the Rothschild name and link it with Mouton.

Not to mention outrageous mark-ups.

Sure does, does not sound like anything I would enjoy.
