2011 Edmunds St. John Syrah Fenaughty Vineyard
Deep Syrah fruit with more than a little roasted meat. It's not very tannic, but has fine acid structure. On the finish is that bacon element that makes good Syrah so distinctive. The first glass was gone much too quickly.

Will report back later with more...

Opened a 2005 WF tonight and it was very very good with a bit of decanter time. Dare I say even perfect. Although I probably shouldn't say that, because I imagine there is more development in store. But I loved it and our beer geek guests were blown away.

Well the 2011 did not change much during the evening. Might have to open an older vintage such as the '03 or '05 soon.

Maybe a stupid question but where do you purchase ESJ wines? I never see them in my neck of the woods.

I've had to order mine from the winery and they don't take credit cards so send a check.

Drew; contact Potomac Selections. They sell our wines in MD, DC, and VA, and can tell you where the wines are at retail

In November, I had a bottle of the 2005 Edmunds St. John Syrah Wylie-Fenaughty that was singing. It was in a big blind Cali vs. N. Rhone syrah tasting and it was in my top 3 of the night. Wish I could find more of that vintage.

Indeed. The 05s have been around in the past few years (i.e. longer than they should have been given the quality), but I don't see anymore in my usual haunts. Maybe Steve knows something?!

From last night's showing I'm thinking I'll have to open more this year, but of course I'm not really set up for the long-distance aging like others.

Had it maybe a year ago and thought it needed many years. But it has got all it needs to make the trip.

As an aside, Donkey and Goat make a Fernaughty Syrah as well.
