WTN: 1983 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhauser Abtsberg Riesling Auslese

by Bill Buitenhuys » Tue Dec 05, 2006 5:29 pm

1983 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhauser Abtsberg Riesling Auslese (25 84) Deep dark golden color. The nose is like walking through a damp autumn forest…pine trees, green moss and this honey coated botrytisy mold. The palate is quite rich and creamy, with a soft hit of pineapple sweetness of the front end, quickly changing to a tart/bitter lemon finish that goes on for some time. I sure would have loved to try this throughout its lifetime as it’s so interesting now.

Fall forest...that's Grunhaus. Sounds like it's time to open one of mine.

Thanks for the note Bill.

Can't wait until my '94's, '95's, and '98's (all Auslese's and special fuder numbers) reach maturity too. John Trombley told me not to touch them for 20 years. After trying a few over the last several years, I think he's right.
Cheers,

David
