- 2004 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru (12/29/2013)
Aromatics a uninteresting. Muddled. Not off putting and not showing much green but far from captivating. The flavors are much nicer. Lean fruit and moderate complexity. Needs a bit of air. Saved about 1/3 of the bottle for the next day at which time I had it without food. Without food it's leanness was at the forefront but the aromatics were clearer. Good job on an 04. I am doubtful on short term improvement but could surprise with 10 more years. (89 pts.)
- 2007 Château Guiraud Le G - France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Contrôlée (12/25/2013)
A simple note on a Christmas starter. This is coming along nicely. Aromatics are very lively. Nice white fruits and some grass notes but no one thing sticking out above the other. On the palate I would say tasty, balanced, nice texture and maybe a bit of sweetness. Really easy to drink on its own but matches of with food perfectly.

Cheers,
Jason

Lots of middling to positive notes on '04 Burgs around lately. Still a few left in my cellar. Maybe hope persists.

I plan to open a 2004 Arlaud Morey-St-Denis "Les Ruchots" this week. Hoping it will be okay.

I haven't personally had many bad experiences with the 04s. Not a lot of great! experiences either. I didn't recently listen to a John Gilman interview where he spoke highly of the 04s. I don't have many but I hope he is right and that the wines improve.
