James served me this as a joke last Fri night. Joke was on him:
1. BaronPhilippe de Rothschild AC: Sauternes (12%) 1979: Deep golden/burnished bronze color; strong tobaccoy/smokey/creme brulee/caramel/butterscotch slight oxidized/sherry quite complex very interesting nose; tart slightly off-dry strong tobaccot/creme brulee/caramel/butterscotch bit earthy somewhat dried-out bit pungent/smokey/tobaccoy quite complex flavor; long off-dry/tart rich tobaccoy/smokey/pungent rather creme brulee/caramel bit oxidized/Oloroso sherry slight bitter finish; not a dessert wine but a quite nice apertif wine w/ a bit of oxidation but in amazingly good condition & quite interesting/complex; more like an old passito or an old VinSanto but not much like an old Sauternes; who'd have thunk...a 34 yr old Mouton-Cadet.
