WTN: Chave Hermitage and Italian dessert

by Jay Labrador » Thu Dec 26, 2013 11:06 pm

From dinner with fellow WLDG member Ramon Cabrera who is in Manila for the holidays. Lots of wines but these two stood out.

Good, dark core and quite tannic upon opening, we left this to breathe in our glasses for the better part of two hours which did the trick in taming the tannins. Aromas of tobacco dominate followed by sweet ripe fruit. On the palate, dried fruit, dried herbs, smoked meat, a touch of earth and mocha. Chewy and still dense, this has the stuffing to keep on going for a couple of more years. Impressive length. Excellent. Bottle courtesy of Ramon.

Cantina Tramin Roen 2011. 90% Gewurztraminer and 10% Riesling from Trentino-Alto Adige. Strong peach and rose aromas. Very fine, honeyed and rich but with a good acidity for balance. Silky. Lychee. Very easy to drink. Good length. Excellent. Available from Zen Asia at P 1960.00 for a half bottle.

There are some terrific whites from Trentino-AA area, lucky you Jay. Have you heard from Noel?

Thanks for the 1989 Chave Hermitage tasting notes. I have a few of these left that I've been saving for special occasions. Sounds as if it's time to come up with a special occasion.
