Two fun wines last night.
2007 Nusserhof Lagrein Riserva was a comfortable easy wine to sip and relax with. Nicely resolved tannins, plenty of deep flavors, but still with a fresh crispish texture. I like the comfortable interest of this wine with a few years of age, good for crowds.
For dinner I opened the 2006 Prager Durnsteiner Hollerin Riesling Smaragd in part because my friend had made a wholly-unseasonal but nonetheless-delicious salad of shaved asparagus. The wine was biggish boned, the flavors were golden yet restrained at the same time, and there was some mineral interest. We finished the bottle in a little more than an hour, so am not sure if the blocky structure would have streamlined with more air, or what other changes may have occurred. But we didn't really care because it was delicious in and of itself, and was a lovely meal accompaniment.
