2005 ESJ Rocks and Gravel.

by Bob Parsons Alberta » Tue Dec 17, 2013 11:32 am

Decided to open last night but then got called away to a farm emergency down the road. My initial impression was that the bottle was not in very good shape but will leave overnight and try again. Hardly any ripe fruit and think starting to dry out?

Wine was graciously given to me by Bob H when some friends of mine were in his area 2 yrs ago. The Bone-Jolly was superb!

It should not be dried out. The 2001 is still going strong, and 2005 was a lovely vintage for Steve's wines.

I think it was a storage issue here..a few reds were stored in the hallway on a ready to drink rack. Bad idea, but will see tonite!

Day 2.

The color is not too advanced but nose is pretty poor and tough to pick anything out. Dry entry, earthy, herbs, brief hint of tannins but not dried out in my mind. Think there has been a storage issue between Maryland and Calgary/Edmonton for sure which is a great pity. Aaagh well.
Maybe I should add that I did check notes on the `01 here on WLDG, and I even went to CT just now. Slanum is quite complimentary but his notes are way more positive than mine.
