Not very exciting dinner Sat night w/ Susan:

_______________
2. Castillo de Monseran Garnacha Dd'O: Carinena (12.5%) SanValero Soc.Cop./Carinena/Aragon/Espana 2011: Med.color; strong Grenache/strawberry/boysenberry/licorice/ripe light earthy/dusty big fruit nose; soft/lush/ripe strong Grenache/strawberry/boysenberry/jammy slight tangy big fruit slight earthy flavor w/ very light tannins; med.long soft/ripe/jammy big ruit/strawberry/Grenache bit earthy/dusty finish w/ light tannins; lots of soft Grenache fruit but lacks structure or interest; pleasant enough for $7.00 (KK)

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Mayu: This wine was pretty consistent w/ the few other dry PX's that I've tried. Pretty simple/innocuous/vacuous. This vnyd was originally used for the production of pisco. Probably should have stayed that way.

Tom; It looks to me like that second wine is actually a Carignan.
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

I was wondering, too. But it clearly said Garnacha on the label and I believe Carinena is a region, but I'll check.

Thanks to Wikipedia:
"Cariñena is a Spanish Denominación de Origen (DO) for wines located in Cariñena, Aragón, Spain. It is one of the oldest protected growing areas in Europe, the DO having been created in 1932. Cariñena vineyards are located near the centre of Aragón, about 50 km southwest of Zaragoza, on a plateau known as the Campo de Cariñena. The lower vineyards lie at an altitude of 400 m, rising to 800 m as they approach the Sierra de la Virgen mountains. To the west they border on the Calatayud (DO)."
