Being in the mood for a tannic, grippy Cab, I picked this one up from Vintages the other day. Turned out to be a good choice.
14.8% alc./vol. Solid, high-quality natural cork closure. This is a Stellenbosch wine. $23.95 at Vintages.
The wine pours with a beautifully intense, deep, black-scarlet hue. With some aeration, it opens to reveal an elegant varietal nose of blackcurrants and oak spice. Properly crisp, dry and focused on the entry, with excellent balance and structure. The tannins are such a pleasure: firm, tight and bold. Quality Cabernet, as it should be.
The finish is properly dry and characterized by oak spice replays. The wine went quite well with a pork tenderloin roast.
