WTN: Ildlewild GrenacheGris '12..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Dec 04, 2013 10:50 am

Got my Idlewood stash in on Monday and couldn't resist cracking one:
1. Idlewild GrenacheGris GibsonRanch/MendoCnty (12.6%; www.IdlewildWines.com) 2012: Pale rose slight onion skin color; lovely very fragrant strawberry/Grenache light earthy/dusty rather cinammon/spicy/cardamon quite perfumed nose; rather tart very perfumey/strawberry/Grenache bit lean/austere quite spicy/cinammon/cardamon some Bandol-like/austere/metallic flavor w/ light tannic bite; long bright/fragrant/Grrenache/strawberry slight metallic/austere/earthy/dusty spicy/cardamon/cinamon finish; a bit like a Tempier rose, a bit like a Tavel rose; quite an attractive strawberry-scented rose and everything you want in a rose. $26.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Idlewood: This is the wnry of Sam & Jessica Bilbro. If that name sounds familiar, it should. His Dad is owner/winemaker at MariettaCllrs. Brothers Jake & Scot run the recently purchased LimmerickLane wnry. They recently purchased the GibsonRanch in McDowellVlly, a National treasure. This grapes came from there. It has the oldest block of GrenacheGris and Syrah in Calif. I'm looking forward to trying Sam's other wines.
