1998 Rosemount GSM
A blast from the past when I drank a lot more Aussies than I do today.
As the name implies this is a blend of Grenache, Syrah/Shiraz and Mourvedre. I last had this wine about 3 years ago and it was an awful mess. At that time it was pretty oak dominated and disjointed. Well time has been relatively kind to this bottle. The oak is still present, but no longer dominates. However oakaphobes will still want to run far away. The color is still vibrant with just the slightest fade at the rim. Dark fruit profile with some pepper/spice/lavendar to accompany the light-medium weight body. Decent finish.
Not a great wine, but it delivered more than I expected given my previous encounter. Certainly not over the hill, but that said I really doubt this will get any better. Would I buy it again? Nah.
