WTN: K-Vintners Syrah MCK '11...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Mon Dec 02, 2013 10:07 am

Tried this wine last night:
1. K-Vintners Syrah MCK WashState (MotorCityKitty; 14.5%; www.K-Syrah.com) WallaWalla 2011: Rather dark color; strong plummy/blueberry/Syrah/blackberry/licorice light toasty/oak bit earthy ripe/big fruit nose; rather soft bit sour/earthy strong plummy/blueberry/Syrah/blackberry/big fruit light toasty/oak flavor w/ light tannins; med.long soft/sour strong plummy/blueberry/Syrah/blackberry soft/fat finish w/ light/soft tannins; a thoroughly undistinguished & boring example of WashState Syrah; totally lacking in either structure or interest; only a small step above the BoomBoom Syrah at an unattractive price. $30.00 (SFW&S)

A wee BloodyPulpit: I generally like CharlesSmith's Syrah. But those you have to pay big $$'s for..$60-$80/btl. I like the BoomBoom as a decent WashState Syrah for a very fair price. I thought this one, at $30, might offer something of interest I find in his high-end Syrahs. Alas...it did not. Drank only two glasses and acknowledged defeat & opened something of more interest.

Tom, I've not had any of Charles' higher end syrahs, but the taste or two I've had at the lower price point didn't motivate me to climb the ladder. Especially when there are so many other good syrahs at the $30ish price point.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov

The high-end CharlesSmith wines are good. Lots of whole-berry fermentation & Rhonish character.
But they're overpriced IMHO.

For Rhonish character in Washington syrah, my vote goes to Reynvaan. Have you had the pleasure yet?

Absolutely, Jenise. One of the people in my group is in their club & I occasionally buy them. Good stuff.
