TN Torii Mor 07

Opened tonight to go with Thanksgiving duck. Torii Mor Chehalem Mountains Select 2007.
Deep ruby color, very clear at the rim. That typical PN nose of black cherries, plums and black berries. Mid-palate dark fruit blast, but nothing else going on...finish continues down the mid-palate but drops off suddenly, and unexpectantly. I'm sorry I've held this wine as long as I have. I bet a couple of years ago, this would have been mind blowing. Now, it is johnny one note. If you have 'em, don' t hold 'em.

Interesting notes, Julia.
I might still have a bottle of Torii Mor tucked away in some forgotten corner of my cellar that I bought when I visited them in 2003. Your notes make the bottle seems like a high-risk project to open. On the other hand I think that wine must have come from the Red Hills of Dundee, which might give somewhat tougher and long-lived wines. If/when I open it, I'll let you know the outcome.

Thanks, Anders, I will be glad to hear how yours fared. In keeping with the theme, I opened another 2007 Torii Mor this weekend. This time the Eola-Amity Hills Select. Definitely held together better than Chehalme Mountains Select. Nice deep dark ruby color, not clear at the rim, and a better mix of black fruit and black cherries. The finish was satisfying, if not particularly long. It certainly didn't <poof> like a chatter who fails to count down!

Cheers!

This is no way to talk about Bob!

Two delicious Burgs with Turkey and a Langhe Rosso not to mention uncounted other bottles. Heck, someone even bought in two bottles of Yellowtail. I don't think they will be invited back next year!

Nice to know you were living large over the weekend JB!
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind

Anders,
You likely bought wine from the '00 or '01 vintages, in which case they were made by a different winemaker than JB's '07s. Back then, their wines were made by Patricia Green, who now makes wine for her eponymous winery.

Mark, yes, I remember that Patricia (whom I in fact also visited in her own winery during my visit in 2003) had left Torii Mor not too long before my visit, so she might indeed have made the wines I bought. I still need to check what is left in my cellar. I am sure that I still at least have one of her own wines waiting to be opened. Time to arrange a tasting of mature Oregon Pinots, it seems :)

Cheers, Anders
