With a chicken panini, fries, and a salad, the 2006 C&P Breton “Beaumont” Chinon. Structured, a bit tight at first, opens after some air (and is very good on day 2). Dark fruit, cocoa, and some light green tobacco leaf notes. On second night seems smoky. Good acids, supple tannins, this could use time, but I enjoyed a lot now. B+
Wednesday we had leftovers (lamb, lentils, risotto, and more), lit the Menorah (no latkes!), and had the 2012 Arnot-Roberts Touriga Nacional rose. Ouch, my last bottle of this, it’s been a 2013 favorite. Lithe, nervy, mineral with cherry fruit, good length, goodbye young friend. B+
Grade disclaimer: I'm a very easy grader, basically A is an excellent wine, B a good wine, C mediocre. Anything below C means I wouldn't drink at a party where it was only choice. Furthermore, I offer no promises of objectivity, accuracy, and certainly not of consistency.
