2012 Piedrassi Syrah (Lompoc). Odd little bottle...more like a medicine bottle than a standard 750 ml Bordeaux or Burgundy bottle. In fact, the wine shop my friend visited was unhappy because it could not fit into the Enomat. Very odd wine. Soft, not much tannic backbone. Still some good acid. Flavors are plum and earth. A good hit of earthy "natural wine" funk. Tasted blind, I would never pick this as a California wine! But, despite my liking for this school of wine, it exhibits an issue...varietal character. I am not sure I could pick this out as Syrah. On the other hand, I've tried gobs-of-fruit syrahs that don't taste like "Syrah" either, and at least I liked this wine!

It actually worked ok with the Thai food!
2012 Abraxas Robert Sinskey Vineyards. Sonoma Valley. (Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewurztraminer). This wine was quite delicious with the Thai curry! The riesling "petrol" notes are coming out now (unlike the first bottle). Good bracing acidity. Lovely citrus and earth notes. Some spice from the Gewurz. Definitely some fruity "sweetness" but still refreshing. Nice wine!
