Decided to try an Italian Novello this year instead of the usual BN, or for that matter, the Ontarian spinoffs!
The 2013 Negrar Novello del Veneto pours with a gorgeous, electric magenta-ruby colour (which reminds me of my homemade dry Concord, of all things). The similarity doesn't stop there, as I pick up huge candied strawberry-banana esters, and candied cherry fruit as well. A dash of peppery spice emerges just before I take that first sip.
Light, tart, lively and brisk on the entry, with big fruity replays all across the palate. Some nice tannins brush across the mid-palate, leaving a tutti-frutti explosion of flavour that segues right into the fine, dry finish.
I'd have sworn this was a Concord - but of course there was no trace of the foxy musk of that grape.
Quite good, and nice with dinner too.
LCBO product # 899955. Screwcap closure. $9.95.
