WTN: '12 Hofgut Falkenstein Riesling Auslese

by David M. Bueker » Sun Nov 17, 2013 8:53 am

Tried the 2012 Hofgut Falkenstein Falkensteiner Hofburg Riesling Auslese last night. It is a really nice wine. I found it quite dry for an Auslese, describing it as feinherb in style. Not at all overblown, it's a very drinkable and food friendly style even at this young age. The flavors ran to the lime and apple end of the spectrum. Very nicely done.

I have not encountered this producer before, so I hope you don't mind some simple qs. Where is Falkenstein? Reputation as a good producer? And who imports? Thx as always David, always learning from your notes.

I would have thought that a name like Falkenstein deserves a pun.

As usual Lars comes up with a very informative piece of writing. I see the thoughts on the spatburgunder, that wine could be a real treat.

Sorry for the paltry info. I was posting from my iPhone, so limited my ambition.

New producer for me. Picked up a few from Chambers after reading a number of things about it. It's in the Saar for those who don't care to click through to Google.

It sounds like an estate well worth getting to know. Thanks, Lars, for that report and thanks, David, for posting.
