WTN: 2011 Wind Gap Sonoma Coast Syrah (11.4% alc)

Using the old Oswaldo convention, as the number is frankly shocking. That said, the wine is a bit lighter in feel than prior years, but it packs a flavor punch. Bacon, herbs and red fruit: repeat as necessary. It's incredibly food friendly, and equally easy to drink. This is a great job from Pax. He is doing wonderful things with Syrah at Wind Gap, not to mention all of the other great varieties that he handles with equal skill.

Sounds delectable. Any idea of where the fruit comes from for this one?

Not the specific sites, no. Might drop them a note to ask though.

What you said about the alcohol % reminds me, you know what they call a Chateauneuf with 14% ABV?

A rose.

45% Nellesen Vineyard, Green Valley, 35% Clary Ranch, Chileno Valley, 20% Armagh Vineyard, Chileno Valley

I think that was the blend from 2010 at least.

I need to try this wine! Chileno Valley is one of my favorite places in Northern California!

Wind Gap responded to my inquiry, but in referring me to the specs on their website I ended up with another question.

The site says the 2011 is 45% Nellessen Vineyard, 40% Armagh Vineyard and 15% Majik Vineyard. BUT it also says the wine is 12.7% alcohol when the label says 11.4%. Seems rather odd to get such a precise (and in one case unusual) alcohol percentage wrong in one of the two places.

Yup, David.....I've seen discrepancies like that between the label & their newsletter/WebSite before on WindGap wines.
I'd go w/ what the WebSite says since the labels are printed up well afore the WebSite is brought up.
