WTN: Dinner at My Home

With imported Proscuitto and Parmigiano Reggiano

2004 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Scholssberg Cuvee Ste. Catherine lovely aromas of honey mingled with apricots. The palate is multi dimensional and elegant showing stone fruit and good acidity ending with a slight bitterness. Delightful with the salty meat and cheese.

With mushroom lasagne

2002 Jadot Clos des Ursules the aromatics were stunning with the emphasis on black cherry. Bitter cherry and underbrush on the palate. Silky texture, but the finish was clipped which only meant another taste was needed. This showed lovely purity and is drinking nicely now if you like bright fruit in your Burgundy. Less fruit would have better suited the pairing with the mushrooms.

With loin lamb chops marinated in olive oil, garlic, and rosemary, sauteed broccoli, and arugula with black olive tapenade crostini

2004 Domaine du Gros Nore Bandol just loaded with black pepper on the nose. You know there is fruit lurking but the pepper and some animal take over. Big tannins, robust with lush fruit and Provencal herbs there on the palate, and the finish is satisfying. What a match with the lamb.

Love the pairings; creative and they sound like something I may try.

I think I've only had a glass of the Cuvee Ste. Catherine once when a wine dealer/restaurant owner sent a complimentary glass over to me from his table. It was a revelation. I should purchase some for home consumption.

I love this wine almost regardless of vintage. It is the only bottle from Alsace that one can always find in my cellar.

I know I have tried this wine. I can see the label in my mind. Yet its not in my cellartracker inventory and I honestly don't remember it. I hate getting old.

I can see were the Jadot CdU might not go well with mushrooms. It's not as earthy as other Burgs. My wife and I both love and earthy Burg with mushrooms.

PS: A '98 Jadot CdU is the best Burgundy buy I have ever run into. We picked up a case on close out for right at $180. It was wonderful wine. Drank the last of it in 2010.
