WTN: 2010 Santa Ema Amplus Sauvignon Blanc, Chile

by JC (NC) » Tue Oct 29, 2013 12:14 am

From the Leyda Valley of Chile. I bought two bottles of this back in 2011 after attending a wine dinner with South American wines and intended to drink the wines that summer but didn't get to them. This held up pretty well for over two years. 13.5% abv. Golden green-tinged color with clarity. Pungent nose. (From my notes back in 2011 I found a little lemon and white peppercorn but mostly grassy or green vegetable odors, approaching asparagus but not crossing that line.) This time I found it hard to pin down specific scents and considered lemon, apple, kumquat and lemongrass but none really rang true. Overall, I liked its crispness and food-friendly characteristics at a modest price. I paired it with a ham/cauliflower au gratin one evening and another evening with a turkey casserole. The label speaks of mineral character and a sumptuous finish and I would agree with that assessment.
