WTN: Two Harrington Pinots..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Oct 27, 2013 7:10 pm

Susan & I tried these last night:
1. Harrington PinotNoir Rose WileyVnyd/AndersonVlly (14.1%; www.HarringtonWine.com; 12 cs) 2012: Pale salmon/orange color; very perfumed/fragrant bright cherry/cranberry/spicy/cherry juice/cherry cider slight earthy lovely aromatic nose; fairly tart beautiful cherry/cranberry/floral/fragrant/cherry cider very spicy light earthy quite pretty flavor; long very tart bright/cherry/cranberry/flowery/very spicy finish w/ little tannins; quite a pretty/spicy/cranberry rose w/o the austere character of many; probably the best rose I've had this yr. $20.00

2. Harrinton Secateur Calif RW (14.1%; Charbono/Teroldego/Carifnane/Trousseau/PinotNoir; 195 cs) 2012: Med.color; light toasty/oak slight earthy/rustic strong PN/black cherry/dusty slight smokey/pungent really lovely Pinotish nose; fairly tart some smokey/pungent/toasty/oak strong black cherry/PN/earthy flavor w/ light/smooth tannins; long light/toasty/oak/charred strong black cherry/PN slight Burgundian/earthy finish w/ light tannins; not a profound wine but very/very attractive Pinot at a great price; back up the truck. $22.00

And a wee BloodyPulpit:
1. Got my latest Harrington shipment and, as iis usually the case, couldn't keep my hands off them. We were doing sauteed spicy tuna steaks and these kept squeaking at me in their tiny voices.."try me/try me". So I gave in to their blandishments.
I like Bryan's Pinots quite a lot. They have a delicate/perfumed character that appeals to the IPoB crowd. This Secateur, his blended wine, spoke to me mostly of PinotNoir but w/ a rustic/earthy character that are not usually present in his regular Pinots. The Rose was one of the best I've had this yr and Susan absolutely swooned over it. Something she doesn't do for the boyfriend.

2. So...on the new Harrington release...it stands Tom/2 Zach/2 for the TN's. I may try the Troosseau tonight and forge into a commanding 3-2 lead. Sorry, Zach...you gotta do better than that to keep up w/ ole TomHill. :-)

Not sure if I've asked this before, Tom, but does he do tastings?

I sometimes do a bicycle ride along the fascinating Third Street/Illinois Street corridor through Dogpatch and Mission Bay, and his winery is in an (ungentrified!!!!) industrial building in the area!

Brian,
Hope you're packing heat when you pedal thru this area. "Ungentrified" is sorta an understatement!! But the rent's gotta be cheap.
Bryan does do tastings. He has several "new release" tastings every year. There's one coming up very soon. Check his WebSite for the date.
And he'll entertain a visit if you make arrangements ahead of time.

You know...a lot of people say this about my strange enjoyment for urban cycling. I would not ride my bicycle down Third Street at 3:00 a.m., and I am not denying certain realities.

I'm going to turn the stereotypes on their head, though: For a cyclist, I feel far more insecure cycling in "upscale" Danville or Woodside (an experienced cyclist was recently killed on the Penninsula by a hit-and-run) where a soccer mom piloting a 5,000 pound Luxury Suburban Assault Vehicle is more likely to wipe me out while chatting to her friends on a bluetooth phone (studies have shown hands-free doesn't really help very much). Just saying. :)
