Interesting article by Corie Brown about Rudy, a guy who has apparently driven up wine auction prices all on his own. I can feel Alan Meadows' pain....I guess.

Two items from the article:

Simple passion is his explanation. "I'm not a collector. I'm a drinker," Kurniawan says...

There's only one problem with this -- if he drank a bottle a day, it would take 137 years to consume the wine. This is not passion -- it is an obsession.

You know that us wine geeks are not always rational about the choices we make!!
Maybe that computation was too complex for him??
I remember talking to the guy at HdR this year. Very likable fellow, not at all pretentious. Now I know the rest of the story...he's a bit nutso like the rest of us.. he just has the $$$'s.

But Randy, If he drank FOUR bottles a day, it would only take 34 years: The average life expectancy and wine consumption of a man living in Thirteenth Century Europe.
