WTN: Cedarville PetiteSirah '04..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Oct 23, 2013 1:54 pm

After going 0-3 on my first wines for dinner, went for a sure thing:
1. CedarvilleVnyds PetiteSirah NaylorVnyd/SierraFoothills/ElDorado (220 cs; 15.5%; www.CedarvilleVineyard.com) 2004: Very dark/black color; strong vanilla/Am.oak/smokey/bourbon some earthy/mushroomy/ElDorado/truffle/pungent some peppery/blackberry/licorice/PS fairly complex nose; soft strong Am.oak/vanilla/bourbon fairly earthy/mushroomy rather peppery/PS/licorice/blackberry bit tannic/hard flavor; very long strong earthy/mushroomy/truffly strong vanilla/Am.oak/bourbon some peppery/PS/licorice/blackberry/smokey some complexfinish w/ bit of hard tannins; a big PS that's starting to smooth out a bit but can still go on for more yrs; speaks loud & strong of ElDorado (that old terroir thing) and PS; like all Cedarville wines a steal at $21.00

1. I have, of course, followed Cedarville from the very start when they showed their Syrah at HdR...way back when. Their PS, always from the nearby NaylorVnyd, has always been a favorite of mine. Just got their pre-release offering and note that they will not have a 2011 PS because the vnyd got hit hard, so they offered some library ones.

Have tasted at the winery in two different vintages, and both times the PS was my favorite in their lineup even though its not a grape I'm usually in like with. It's special enough that the Fairplay area could set itself apart with it--that is, if they could get the public to take it seriously.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
