Last Christmas, I received a fancy gift box of Woot wine from our son & his wife. The box had a most outrageous drawing of a cyclops ape burned into or printed onto the wood front panel. It contained three bottles of
2000 Woot Cellars Rinfrescante, a red wine blend. Here's their printed description of that wine.
A blend of (42%) Sangiovese, (27%) Cabernet Sauvignon, (26%) Merlot and (5%) Cabernet Franc, this is an approachable, food-friendly red wine that boasts delicioius flavors of cherry, vanilla and light berry with subtle tannins. It is a dry, fruit forward wine that will stand up nicely to spicy foods. Enjoy now.
Just so happens, my son knew I had a stash of wines from Viansa, including a couple bottles of their
2000 Viansa Sempre Avanti, a domestic version of a Super Tuscan red wine. You guessed it ... the description on the back of that Viansa bottle was exactly the same ... word for word.
As an experiment, I put these two bottles on the counter side-by-side at our annual winter wine party and asked guests if they thought the wines were the same. Everyone, who gave me feedback, felt they were the same wines. Was it just power of suggestion?
