WTN: Vieux Chene CdR Cuvee des Capucines (Rose')

by ClarkDGigHbr » Thu Nov 30, 2006 2:04 am

I purchased a single bottle of the 2005 Domaine du Vieux Chene Cuvee des Capucines Cotes du Rhone ($13) a few months back and just got around to opening it. WOW !! Bright and crisp, bursting with red berry fruit. Feels clean in the mouth and ends with gentle spices on the finish. 100% Grenache Rose' from an organic grower in southern France. This is a lovely and exciting Rose'.

An unfortunate name when one thinks that "old oak" can be construed to mean "aged in old barrels"...

We drank a bunch of this over the summer. Agree with you assessment.

I have a recollection of an earlier vintage named almost, or exactly, the same, which was a rouge, not a rose. And I remember that I liked it enough to go back for more and that most of the 6 bottles I bought had loose fitting corks, but the wine was fine. Does Vieux Chene make both a rose and a rouge, and are they both called Capucines?

OW,
These are imported by J et R and there is a rouge as well as a rose.

Thanks, Bill. I distrusted my memory for a while.

This bottle of Rose' came with a very tight-fitting synthetic stopper. It resembles a hollow rubber cylinder filled with cream-colored goo. I couldn't tell you what kind of stopper they use for their CdR Rouge.
