Flaccianello della Pieve Fontodi 1997

Typical nineties “supertuscan”, and in my opinion one of the best. I see here on WLDG a lot of past discussions on this and vintage 1997 in Tuscany. 100% Sangiovese.

Bought in 2001 and cellared at 14 °C till...last Friday. Decanted two hours, 18 °C in the glass. Intense ruby colour, great concentration, something older on the edge. Beautiful and seductive nose: blackberries, plums, cherries, sweet tobacco and everything packed in dried violets. Wow. In the mouth soft caresses, perfect tannins, perfectly mature fruit, elegance and concentration embraced together, velvety swallowing. Double wow.
In no way a tired wine or downhill. Outstanding.
