WTN: Ojai Syrah ThompsonVnyd '99..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Wed Sep 04, 2013 11:53 am

Tried this late last night w/ dinner:
1. OjaiVnyd Syrah ThompsonVnyd/SBC (14.5%) 1999: Very dark/black color w/ little bricking; very strong blackberry/Syrah/licorice/blueberry some pungent/roasted/Rhonish slight herbal/rosemark/oregano rather toasty/smokey/oak bit peppery/Thompson slight violets/aromatic rather complex Calif Syrah nose; big/rich/ripe strong blackberry/Syrah/blueberry rather toasty/smokey/oak fairly smooth slight roasted/Rhonish complex flavor w/ smooth/gentle tannins; very long/lingering intense blueberry/blackberry/Syrah some toasty/smokey/oak slight peppery/roasted/Rhonish structured complex finish w/ slight tannic bite far in the aftertaste; a lovely example of a mature Ojai Syrah that's come together quite nicely; probably will go another 5-8 yrs.
