I don't have the link but you can find it. Come in from the BBQ and chat a spell.

"Sorry but your Java is not enabled." Or something like that.

Don't even know how to deal with that.

I was notified that you were logged off, but that was when you actually did log off.

Javascript is a program language (well almost, but close enough) that is used to make the chat panels work. Your browser needs to specify that you want it to translate the commands. In the past at least javascript used to enable hacker to get into your computer on occasions. Probably a lot more secure now.

Go here http://www.enable-javascript.com/ and select what browser you are using, then follow the instructions.

For Internet Explorer:

On web browser menu click "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options".
In the "Internet Options" window select the "Security" tab.
On the "Security" tab click on the "Custom level..." button.
When the "Security Settings - Internet Zone" dialog window opens, look for the "Scripting" section.
In the "Active Scripting" item select "Enable".
When the "Warning!" window pops out asking "Are you sure you want to change the settings for this zone?" select "Yes".
In the "Internet Options" window click on the "OK" button to close it.
Click on the "Refresh" button of the web browser to refresh the page.

For Firefox:

On the web browser click "Firefox" menu and then select "Options".
In the "Options" window select the "Content" tab.
Mark the "Enable JavaScript" checkbox.
In the opened "Options" window click on the "OK" button to close it.
Click on the "Reload current page" button of the web browser to refresh the page.

Neil, I am running FF version 23.0.1 and I find options under tools, but I don't see any opportunity to allow javascript. in fact I haven't found anything pertaining to java at all. In fact all I see under content is allow or disallow popups, or fonts and colors, and languages. Nothing at all about java or javascript. I think that javascript is allowed in FF by default, and if the operator wants control he must have another program such as Noscript. Later today I wil download the addon and see if I can get it to allow or deny javascript where wanted.

Bob, you are right. Mozilla turned off this option in v23 and now it is on by default. Here is an article about why they have decided to do this.

http://limi.net/checkboxes-that-kill/

Also I found a mention of an add-on called "quickjava" that will enable you to turn it on/off. No mention about what version it works with and I am not going to try it out as I am quite happy having javascript turned on all the time.

Please keep in mind that Java and Javascript are two different entities. Java, which is what the chat software needs to run, is a multiplatform, intepreted programming language that runs in a "Java runtime engine" on your computer. Javascript, which is a huge, gaping security crater, is a scripting language interpreted by your browser. You don't need Javascript enabled to run the chat software. My laptop at home no longer can run the chat software because Apple hasn't issued a version of Java for my version of OS X (Thanks, Apple!) Some of you may have the same problem.

You are right Mark. Jenise mentioned Java, not javascript. So if Jenise's problem is with Java and not javascript, does the IE Active Scripting option turn on/off the ability to use Java as well?

Jenise, if you are still having problems could you tell us what the message is, exactly?

Message is probably "Sorry, your browser is not Java enabled, please visit our java support pages ". IE 8 displays this, and a message to install an ActiveX control. I said yes, do this, but this did not work. The ParaChat help video said to enable the Java add-on, but this was not showing in the full list of add-ons.

I checked Java and find I was using the latest version (go to http://www.java.com. If you use other downloads check that it is not going to change your default search engine to ask.com or some other thing, also that it is not going to add another toolbar to screw up your browser).

Added https://www.wineloverspage.com to the trusted sites (Tools / Internet Options / Security / Trusted Sites / Sites). No difference.

Set the security level of Trusted Sites to "Low". No difference. Changed trusted site to not require https: and added http://www.wineloverspage.com. Worked a little differently this time, but still no go.

Hmm.

I now see why I have not used IE for so many years, except for testing my MG Car Club website (http://www.mgclub.org.nz).

At this stage, all I can suggest is to try a different browser. Firefox at http://www.mozilla.org (my preferred browser), Apple's Safari, or Google's Crome at http://www.google/crome, or Opera at http://www.opera.com.

I have twice had to blow Java out (remove it via control panel, then download the same version and install. Both times this has worked. I believe that Java in the last half dozen or more versions has become quite unstable. But if it doesn't work, then why not try removing and reinstalling it?

Might work for Jenise. However, as IE does not work for me on Chat it is simpler just to ignore it and continue using Firefox. Or Chrome. IE is a waste of space as far as I am concerned. :-)

Jenise, what browser are you using (assuming IE 10) and is it working for you now? Or do you now have another browser that you can use just for Chat?
