WTN: 2000 Warre's Port

by David M. Bueker » Sat Aug 31, 2013 7:38 pm

From a bottle that had languished since release on a cool but not cellar cold retail shelf. The cork was a pain. After resolving that problem the wine came out sound and shockingly young. The fruit is vibrant, the tannins firm, and it needs air (for this bottle) and time (for the other bottle from the same source). Will update later, after the wine gets some of that much needed air.

Night 2 update: totally integrated, but still painfully young. The indifferent storage didn't harm this bottle.

David,

I'm struggling here. Why would anyone be surprised by a 2000 port being shockingly young?

Of course it's young! What am I missing here? Port doesn't need perfect storage conditions and any good vintage port at that age will seem very young.

But you know that so I'm totally confused.

Tom,

It sat on a shelf in the store for 11 years. I figured that there might be some advancement.
