WTN: Brun-stick

This was a surprisingly disappointing bottle of wine. The fruit was dried out and hollow, with just astringent back end grip. Frankly it was not worth drinking. Too bad.

Was this under plastic "cork"?

Nope - real cork. All the cru wines have been real cork in my buying experience (2005 and more recent).

Very too bad. Speaking of Fleuries, opened the 08 Foillard the other night. It seemed like it was tiring but by no means all the way to tired. What a lovely, spicey, delicate thing it is.

I think we sometimes give too much credit to cru Beaujolais being able to age for eons. Sometimes a wine is merely....mortal.

It feels bad to be stuck with a cellar disappointment, but then there are all the surprises which keep us in this game!

Although I don't think the population that overestimates the aging potential of Beaujolais is really the main issue with broader public understanding of the wines!

And I know it depends on the bottling and personal tastes, but did you have any of that 98 Chamonard that was recently making its way through US stores? I had a few bottles and found it a very compelling argument, at least for aging Chamonard.

I do not personally have an expectation that Beuajolais is immortal.

John Gilman on the other hand, has gone all Robert Parker on his drinking windows (2009s below, I do't have his 2005 report):

It's frankly absurd.
