The Plumpjack crew bought the old Stelztner Winery on Silverado Trail near Pine Ridge a short while ago and renamed it
Odette Estate. I was doing a casual ride down the valley and on a whim decided to stop by.
They are investing in the Steltzner place, with new architecture and I believe an expanded wine cave. The wines are not currently estate wines, as they are introducing the 2012 vintage in a couple of years. Instead, they are pouring a line of sourced fruit wines named ADAPTATION. And, you know what... the winemaker, a young guy named Jeff Owen, has some skillz!

Definitely on the more elegant side of Napa wines. Perhaps easy drinking, but there is fine balance, elegant fruit, some other things going on besides just fruit bombyness. They even pull off a very nice steel Chardonnay with tangy, crisp fruit and some interest...this is not plonk. The Petit Sirah had fine and elegant blueberry-herbal fruit and restrained alcohol. The cabernet, as well, had interesting herbal notes underlying the nice cassis fruit!
Good stuff!
