2007 Tobin James, Silver Reserve, Paso Robles, Cabernet Sauvignon ($48 U.S., Alcohol level: 14.8%). It gave a very strong cabernet aroma on the nose, notably that of cassis and other fruit. The same came through on the first taste. In the middle were more gobs of fruit, a complex structure and a mere hint of oak. The finish went on and on.
We enjoyed it with a kind of special meal that we don’t do every day or week. It consisted of a wonderful thick porterhouse steak that we grilled on charcoal and mesquite chips, corn-on-the-cob, and sliced tomatoes. After finishing the wine we enjoyed freshly picked raspberries in whipped cream. Fantastic!
