WTN: Summer in sweatland

Popeye: "I am whad I am!"
Summer: "I drink whad I drink!"

Anthill Farms, Syrah, Sonoma Coast, 2010
Lots o'pepper on the palate with not a lot of structure or dimension, but perhaps a good go out to another 4-6 years. Somewhat floral, clean syrah fruit without any weight. 13.6% A little chill on this takes off some of the hard edges. B/B+

Chateau Brown, Pessac-Leognan, 2001 (blanc)
Deeply golden colored with a brownish tint. Lemon, lanolin and vanillin. Medium bodied with healthy acidity, and a lingering lemon oil/zest finish. Good stuff, as always. Sad to see it go. A-

Domaine du Mas Blanc, Collioure, 'Junquets', 2004
I believe the Junquets is mostly (90% or so) syrah with the rest Marsanne and Roussanne. The typical salted plum, saline mixture, and hospital ward with savory herbs, drinking fully mature at present. Peat note at the end. 13% B/B+

Scherrer, Zinfandel, Alexander Valley, 'Old and Mature Vines;, 2011
Yeh yeh, I know these can age but this is just soo good right now. There's bright briary fruit, with more of a red fruit quality than black. Really like the weight and balance on this, and feels balanced despite the 14.5% alcohol. Raspberry, lavender, strawberry, with Scherrer perfume too (Draper is not the Only perfume out there!). A-

Domaine Sorin, Bandol, 2001
Looking a little old and tired right out of the bottle, color showing its age. A nose of Band-Aid, soiled leather, and dusty plums is coaxed out, this is soft and ready to go. Touch of rough tannin on the finish, this crys for meat...roast-ed meat. B

Godme, Champagne, Blanc de Blancs, NV
Fine bead, appleskin and gingered pear, slight note of lime. A little on the sweet side for a brut, but a small complaint on this excellent bottle. Has a lightly lifted elegance about it. Delish. A-

Thank you for the notes, Mark. I like the Godme Rosé, but have never had any of their other wines. The Château Brown sounds like an overachiever, even with 2001 being an excellent year for white Graves/Pessac.

We don't see much from Mas Blanc in these parts, which is a shame.

Thanks for the notes. Sure the Scherrer zins can age but they definitely don't need it. Good thing is at those prices its easy to get enough young and old.
