With a pork medallion and bacon macaroni and cheese I had a trio of 2-oz. pours of Pinot Noir. One Pinot was a substitute for the Windrun which was sold out (Santa Barbara negociant that purchases Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes and makes wines.) The substitute was PARAISO VINEYARDS PINOT NOIR from the Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey, CA. The website says their focus is decidely Burgundian but you could have fooled me! As with a sample of this I had from a wine dispenser at a wine shop in Fayetteville, this tasted too candied for my palate--like candied cherry.
Somewhat more pleasing was the 2010 MACROSTIE PINOR NOIR, SONOMA COAST, CA. This was more tart than the first wine while still in the cherry-flavored wheelhouse. It exhibited viscosity. Slightly brooding but my favorite of the three wines.
The third wine was the 2010 SINEANN PINOT NOIR from the Willamette Valley, OR. It seemed a touch vinegary--perhaps from a bottle that had been opened for awhile? It also showed viscosity. The flavor improved with food, becoming more balanced and pleasant than on its own.
The wine bar offers a Chardonnay flight and several others as well as single glasses or half glasses. (I reported separately on the two Pinot Gris wines I tried by the half glass.)
