Hot weather equals high acid, and these have it in spades (sometimes too much).
Digioia-Royer, Bourgogne, 2008
An acidic wash of a wine if there ever was one: pomegranate seeds and cranberry, refreshing at first on a hot day, but then feels begins to feel like licking an open car battery. Some spice on the end, but nothing here beyond a glass of strawberry-lemonade. I'd like a little more for $20.
Michel Gahier, Arbois, Ploussard, 2009
Strawberry pink colored, with cabbage and swamp weed aromas. Lightish and simple, with celery seed on the finish and a little tannic bite on the end of this lightly red fruited wine. Not as funky on the palate as the nose would suggest. 12.5%
