2011 Edmunds St. John Rocks and Gravel - USA, California (7/10/2013)
As a drinker of Riesling, it is rare that I come across a red wine that delivers the level of focus and clarity that I find in my favorite white grape. The 2011 Rocks & Gravel does just that. The clarity of fruit expression, aligned with the non-fruit elements that come from the grape varieties is on full display here. There's no makeup, no veil. It's delicious, fruity and also has great depth that is waitingto unfold. The bottle was shared among a group of people, so I did not get to follow the wine as long as I would have liked, but from what I tasted there is great promise here, not to mention current drinking pleasure.
