JULY 3RD WINES - Matt & Summer's (7/3/2013-7/4/2013)- 2010 Alzinger Riesling Federspiel Dürnsteiner - Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau (7/3/2013)
Beautiful aromas of peach, lychee, nectarine and minerals. The palate had its fits and starts. At times the mid-palate was a bit hollow while at others it was regal. Overall, I liked this a lot. It seemed to be a bit more consistent with more air, so I may be guilty of impatience. (90 pts.) - 1995 Château Montus Madiran - France, Southwest France, Madiran (7/3/2013)
Dark aromas of tea, spiced plum, black cherry and earth. Has some subtle balsamic notes too. The palate is bursting with fruits and smoke. A great, cool, combination of blackberry, plum, and spices. A good deal of sweet tannis on the finish all the time being balanced and precise. Beautiful stuff. (92 pts.) - 2011 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Urgestein Terrassen - Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau (7/3/2013)
Exotic and pungent nose of unripe banana peel (the green kind), melons, pepper and minerals. Its palate is decent - has a meaty character to it that's been hard for me to conceptualize. Its sauvage character is pretty wild and goes nicely with the dense fruit. Air is really helpful here...the fruit certainly deepened with time. Very nice for an entry level Gruner. (89 pts.)

So the Montus is finally ready to drink? Been waiting a long time for that.
