Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Kabinett – 14 – 2008 – C. von Schubert – Alc.8%. Each bottle of this is smoother than the previous. The original tartness of the acidity has disappeared and I might have doubted whether this was a 2008 given the way it has smoothed down. However, it was highly enjoyable for its combination of medium/light body, minerals, saline structure, still lively acidity and gentle sweetness and fine length and is still gaining complexity and underlying roundness. Very good 16.5/20.

Maximin Grünhäuser Bruderberg Riesling - 29 - 2005 – C. von Schubert – Alc.9%. I opened this junior brother 2 days after the Abtsberg 98 and was surprised that it was batting in a similar league. It was slightly fuller bodied and richer in fruit but showed lovely mouth-watering and lively acidity and similarly gentle sweetness. There was, I think, less complexity and refinement than with the Abtsberg and probably less future but it was a lovely drink. Very good 16/20.

The Bruderberg Riesling is always a delicious drink (vintage conditions allowig of course). I had the 2001 Grunhaus QbA (Bruderberg) several weeks ago, and it was just stunning. Not even close to fully mature either.
