Zweigelt and Blaufraenkisch -Maybe 2001 wasn't such a noteworthy vintage in Burgenland, but this is drinking very well today. A flood of soft, BRIGHT cherry and strawberry fruit -but not rich, extracted, or gooey. Smoky-sweet pork meatiness, charcoal, and ferrous, rusty mineral. There is just the slightest hint of well-woven oak. The tannins have lost some of their grittiness, but there is life yet to be lived and there be some swashbucklin' acidity too. All of that completely streamlined and well balanced. I shall surely buy more. 12,5% $50
Prost!
