NV Marguet Père et Fils Champagne Cuvée Réserve Brut

Color: Pinkish yellow (yellowish pink?). Medium size bubbles at a moderate generation rate.

Nose: A slight citrus note, but not much else.

Taste: Some apple and pear. Very watery. Didn't improve substantially with time in the glass.

This champagne was very disappointing for the price. I'm particularly irritated because I passed over a lower priced Duval-Leroy, which we love, for this champagne at the recommendation of the wine shop owner. Based on this experience with the Marguet NV I don't see myself anteing up for a vintage model.

I'm currently in a bit of a champagne funk. The last three attempts at venturing away from my standard sparklers have been failures. Next time I plan to "dance with the one what brung me."

David,

My three favorite champagnes I can afford to drink regularly are Duval-Leroy standard bottling, Larmandier-Bernier (growers champagne), and Nicolas Feuillatte Brut reserve. All three can be had for between $35 and $50 per bottle. I have almost depleted the case of Larmandier that I lucked into about a year ago and don’t know if I can find more. I don’t think there is any unifying theme among the three, but they never seem to let me down.
