by TomHill » Mon May 27, 2013 1:40 pm

Tried this Sat afternoon:
1. OjaiVnyd Syrah HenryDaniel/ThompsonVnyd/SantaBarbaraCnty (15.5%) 1997: Dark color w/ slight bricking; strong toasty/oak/smokey bit alcoholic bit charred/pungent strong blackberry/Syrah bit licorice/RCCola/peppery/earthy fairly complex nose; fairly tart slight tannic/hard/drying out rather smokey/pungent/toasty/oak/charred strong peppery/blackberry/Syrah/blueberry bit alcoholic somewhat complex flavor; very long quite blackberry/Syrah/blueberry/spicy/peppery some charred/toasty/smokey/oak bit RCCola/pungent finish w/ a bit of heat and some hard/tannic/drying out aftertaste; a pretty classic/mature Ojai Syrah w/ good complexity.

1. As per a request for an opinion onthe HenryDanial, decided to crack a btl of this. It's a pretty classic smokey/pungent Ojai Syrah. The tannins seem a bit hard & drying and I don't see this wine has getting any better. Drink up.
